At Highlands Jewellery we can create bespoke pieces as a special gift, to mark an occasion or simply as a present to yourself! We can help you design engagement rings, company pins, school graduation badges, tiaras and headpieces for Weddings or special events. You can also work with our designers to transform a piece of jewellery you no longer wear into something new and incredible. We work with a selection of precious metals in 18 carat and 9 carat White, Rose and Yellow Gold and Platinum. We also make special orders in 925 Sterling Silver base that can then be plated in Gold and/or Silver.

5 steps – Custom Made Process (typically 6–8 weeks)

1. Starting the design. – Custom order request form

Whether you know exactly what you want or only have an idea, our process helps refine the design of your custom made jewellery. You can start in a number of ways:

  • Show us the elements of several pieces that you want to combine into one.
  • Share your vision, even if you don’t have an example to show us.

2. Determine a budget.

We understand that talking budget can be difficult: sometimes you can’t narrow down what you want until you know how much it will cost. For that reason we will:

  • Start with an initial price based on the preliminary design, knowing that as the piece is finalised, the price may change.
  • Provide pricing for different variations — for example, gold vs. platinum and stones of various sizes and quality.
  • Give practical guidelines on balancing quality and price when it comes to custom made jewellery.

We require a 50% deposit prior to commencing work on custom designed products with the remaining 50% payable upon completion, prior to delivery. We are happy to discuss with you for your preferred payment option. To the extent permissible by law, deposits paid on custom designed products are non-refundable.

3. Complete the custom piece.

This is the stage where you commit – or not – to the new piece. We will:
– Finalise the design using sketches and computer drawings.

– Make a decision on the materials and the stones.

–  Agree to the  final price.


4. Approve production.

The goal is to have you love your new custom made jewellery the minute you see it. To make sure that happens, you will:

  • Sign-off on the final computer (CAD) design. A huge benefit of computer designs is how much they look like the real thing. You will see your piece from various angles, ensuring it’s perfect before we start production.
  • Inspect and approve the stones. Unless you’re buying a perfect stone, there will be flaws (called inclusions). We will point them out to you under magnification so you know exactly what you’re getting.

5. Receive your new custom made jewellery!

The entire process takes 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the complexity of your custom piece and  how many iterations are needed to finalise the design.
